30 Dec My life in a bag…
Less than 24 hours
How do you pack your whole life into a suitcase?
How do you decide what you’ll want and need for a year in a place youve never been?
And most importantly, how do you decide what shoes to take when you have too many to choose from?
These are just a few of the questions I’ve been asking myself since I deciding to just up and move to Australia.
I’m a horrible packer. I mean bad. When I go on a 2 day trip I pack enough clothes for a week (or two.) So when people started asking me what and how I was going to pack for a year long trip, I started questioning myself. One of the main things I read and heard was to NOT overpack. I took this seriously when thinking about bouncing around in hostels, buses, trains and planes. I’m a strong girl. But I’m not a huge fan of dragging luggage from place to place. And I also didn’t want to be “that” girl. The girl fumbling with a huge suitcase, a backpack and a purse. “That”girl has TOURIST written all over her face, along with the sweat that I’m sure would be pouring down from it as well.
Sooooo I decided this was all I would take ?
Just kidding… Even though I have thought about multiple ways of sneakin her with me! My sister and Jeff weren’t about it.
Buuuuuut I set my mind to only bringing a small rolling suitcase and a backpack.
When I say small suitcase, I mean small. Like its able to fit in the overhead bin on the plane. And look back at that picture of Shelby, a 2 year old, popping out of it.
Hahahahahahahahahaha a year in that? I laughed too.
I ACTUALLY DID IT!
I am pretty proud of myself.
That’s my whole life right there!
Let me break down what I packed. And squeezed into this picture. So you can be impressed too… or really bored (skip ahead if you don’t care)
5 pairs of shoes
- Flip flops
- Nike Frees
1 pair of blue jeans and a belt
3 pairs of jean shorts
5 pairs of running shorts/spandex
14 tank tops
2 sundresses and one skirt
Weeks worth of sports bras, underwear and socks
2 regular bras
3 swim suites
2 pairs of running leggings
A toiletry bag
Small amount of jewelry And makeup
Wowawewa! Impressive right?
Side note: It is summer there right now, like hot and humid and 85 degrees. So yes, you can totally be jealous!
So with that being said I am officially packed and ready to go.
All that’s left are some really hard goodbyes…
“You get a strange feeling when you leave a place, like you’ll not only miss the people you love , but you miss the person you are at this time and place because you’ll never be this way ever again.”
And so the adventure begins. See you soon Australia I can’t wait to meet you!
