27 Jun Lifting Wright- STRONGER THAN CANCER
Lifting Wright was created to change lives,
funny thing is,
it started with mine.
I realized that it was easy to get caught up in the sorrow,
to wish things were different and to feel helpless.
But the action of creating something, even if it’s small, that could change a life,
is really powerful.
I never truly understood her presence until it was gone,
but world deserves to have it back.
This has been a dream of mine since she passed away.
To continue to have her story and her spirit touch more peoples lives.
I am unbelievably excited to announce the first annual Lifting Wright “Erin” Memorial WOD hosted by Desert Devil CrossFit.
This event will be taking place on Saturday July 15, 2017.
The workout is designed for any and all fitness levels and open to everyone.
The 5 W’s
Who: Erin Turner born on July 12, 1987 was diagnosed with stage III malignant melanoma on April 3, 2008 at age 19. What started off as a small mole on the back of her neck, transformed into a long 6 year brawl with cancer. Erin was born in Las Cruces where she graduated from Mayfield High School, she accepted a soccer scholarship to Minnesota State Mankato. After being diagnosed she returned home and finished her studies at NMSU with a degree in Hotel Restaurant Tourist Management. Throughout her battle she became a certified personal trainer where her passion for health and fitness touched the lives of so many. With a constant, positive outlook in life and a sunny upbeat disposition, she faced all adversity head on. She discovered a passion for baking and creating healthy meals and a healthy lifestyle. Erin unflinchingly shared her story in order to empower other cancer survivors to fight and live life to the fullest every day. She continually talked on sun safety and the importance of personal health choices.
Erin passed away on March 13th, 2014 at the age of 26 in Houston Texas with her family by her side.
Erin Turner is the sister of DDCF members Kelsey Wright and Morgen Wright-Pfeifer and Widow Sean Tuner.

(Deadlift your suitcase if you’re in the airport)
Why: I could go on for years about this, but ill stick to the major points. Erin was simply put on this earth to make it a better place. In the 26 years she was alive she changed the lives of so many people. Her positive attitude through her struggles could’ve made you believe that she was never affected by this terrible disease. She stood up for what she believed in, to promote healthy living and feeling the best you could regardless of circumstances. She was smart, funny and one hell of a joke teller. Her and I had dreams and plans to become motivational speakers and to write books, those dreams are still happening- because i promised her they would.
she loved MD Anderson Cancer Center- the doctors and nurses became friends and family. The amount of time she spent there was exhausting at times, but the talent, knowledge and expertise of the men and women that work there is top notch. The different trials, tests and options they continued to give her through out her 5 year battle, no doubt, gave us more time with her.
In honor of her fight and the outstanding doctors and research that MD Anderson provides Desert Devil CrossFit is donating money raised to MD Anderson Cancer Research in Erin’s name.
This is just a small way for me to keep her spirit alive- she had so many more lives to touch in this world, and i am going to continue to do that for her.
